Before you start: what you need
- Your UAN (Universal Account Number), the 12-digit number on your salary slip or from your employer.
- Your mobile number activated with your UAN on EPFO’s portal.
- At least one KYC linked to your UAN: bank account, Aadhaar or PAN. Without it, the missed call and SMS services won’t show your balance.
Method 1: Missed call (fastest, no internet)
- From the mobile number registered with your UAN, give a missed call to 9966044425.
- The call disconnects automatically after two rings. There is no charge.
- You receive an SMS with your last PF contribution and PF balance.
Method 2: SMS
- From your registered mobile, type
EPFOHO UANand send it to 7738299899. - You get an SMS with your last contribution, balance and KYC details.
Want the reply in your language? Add the first three letters of the language after UAN. For example, EPFOHO UAN HIN for Hindi or EPFOHO UAN TEL for Telugu. English is the default.
Method 3: Online EPF passbook
- Open the official EPFO Member Passbook portal (
passbook.epfindia.gov.in). - Log in with your UAN and password, and complete the verification shown on screen.
- Select your Member ID (one for each employer) to view the passbook with month-by-month contributions and interest.
Tip: if you have worked for more than one employer, each job has its own Member ID. Check that all are linked to your one UAN.
Method 4: UMANG app
The government’s UMANG app includes EPFO services, so you can view your passbook on your phone. Download it only from the official Play Store or App Store listing.
Balance not showing? Common problems
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| No SMS after missed call / SMS | Use the mobile number activated with your UAN, and make sure bank, Aadhaar or PAN is linked to your UAN. |
| UAN not activated | Activate it on EPFO’s Unified Member Portal, or ask your employer for help. |
| Passbook shows an old employer only | Your old and new Member IDs may not be linked. Check with your employer or EPFO. |
| Latest month missing | Contributions appear after your employer deposits them, so there can be a delay. |
Beware of fake “EPFO” calls
EPFO says it never calls members asking for personal details, OTPs or payments. Don’t pay anyone who calls claiming to “release” your PF. Official EPFO helpline: 1800118005. If you are cheated, call the cyber fraud helpline 1930.
